Student Scholarship Information
High school seniors and college students who have been committed to the Special Olympics Howard County program as a volunteer and advocate of the athletes can apply to four scholarships provided through the generosity of four families.
The deadline for submitting applications for Outstanding Student Volunteers Scholarships is announced early each calendar year. Scholarship winners are typcially announced in the spring . There are several scholarships to which you can apply and you are encouraged to apply to scholarships under both groups (SOHO and Community Founcation of Howard County.) If you have any questions, you can contact the SOHO office.
Scholarships under Special Olympics Howard County
You only need to complete one application to be considered for both the Jackie Burk Scholarship and the Kathy Lindner Scholarship. All completed applications (to include all recommendations) must be received in the SOHO office (8970 Route 108, Suite A-1, Columbia, MD 21045) by the announced deadline. There is a drop box outside the office door if delivering when the office is not open. Applications can also be emailed to email@example.com.
Jackie Burk Memorial Scholarship for Outstanding Student Volunteer (up to $1,500)
Created in 2004 by Jack and Linda Burk in memory of their daughter, Jackie, a special friend and volunteer to Special Olympics Howard County.
Kathy Lindner Memorial Scholarship for Outstanding Student Volunteer ($500)
Created in 2012 in memory of Special Olympics Howard County’s first Volunteer Coordinator.
